93rd Doctoral Promotion

Promovendus Ir. I Komang Agus Ariana, ST., MT, succeeded in his doctoral dissertation exam and became the 93rd PhD of the Study Program of Doctoral Engineering Science (PSDIT), Faculty of Engineering, Udayana University. The dissertation titled Project Management Relationship Model to Construction Project Performance during the Pandemic (Covid-19) in the Province of Bali received a very satisfactory predicate.

Dr. Ir. I Komang Agus Ariana, ST., MT explained that the Covid-19 pandemic has brought significant challenges to the implementation of construction projects in Indonesia, including aspects of cost, quality, time, and project sustainability. This situation demands adaptive project management strategies to maintain optimal construction project performance amidst uncertainty. This study aims to analyze the influence of project management dimensions, including planning, organizing, executing, and controlling, on the performance of construction projects during the pandemic (COVID-19), considering the role of human resource (HR) competence as a moderating variable. The method used in this study was descriptive quantitative with a Structural Equation Modeling approach using Partial Least Squares (PLS-SEM). Data were gathered by sending out questionnaires to 108 people and validating the model with feedback from 9 experts chosen from construction project professionals in Bali.

The research results indicated that all dimensions of project management functions, namely planning, organizing, executing, and controlling, have an impact on construction project performance. Additionally, human resource competence proved capable of strengthening the influence of implementation and control on construction project performance, indicating that project success heavily depends on the quality of the workforce. These findings offer a new model for managing construction projects during crises like the pandemic, showing how different management functions work together to improve project performance. Practically, the results of this research can serve as a reference for project managers and stakeholders in formulating policies, management strategies, and strengthening human resource capacity to enhance the resilience and success of construction projects. The novelty of this research lies in the simultaneous approach that considers the moderating variable of human resource competence in the context of the pandemic (COVID-19).
