The Study Program of Doctoral Engineering Science (PSDIT) held its 75th doctoral promotion on Wednesday, 7 August 2024, at the Wismakarma Hall, Faculty of Engineering, Udayana University, on Jl. P.B. Sudirman Denpasar. Promovendus Ir. Duarte Da Costa Sarmento, ST., M.Eng., IPM, ASEAN. Eng with the dissertation titled Analysis of Operational Feasibility and Maintenance Management of Power Plant in Timor Leste received a very satisfactory predicate.

Dr. Ir. Duarte Da Costa Sarmento, ST., M.Eng., IPM, ASEAN. Eng describes that Timor-Leste's power plants are often called Electric Diesel Timor-Leste (EDTL) and use diesel engines as their primary source of power. These diesel engines require maintenance to keep them in perfect condition and ready to run when needed. Timor-Leste has 15 diesel engines at its two central power plants. The Hera site has seven generators and the Betano site has eight generators. The two sites are far apart. The installed diesel engines were manufactured in 2011 and had an installed capacity of 17 MW. Therefore, a plan was made to run four generator motors to generate 68,000 kW to meet Timor-Leste's daily electricity demand of 65,000 kW. This electrical energy will be distributed to communities throughout the Timor-Leste region. The fuel consumption of the six engine units is 1200 liters/hour. The fuel consumption of the four-engine units is 1600 liters/hour. Comparing the two working patterns, fuel savings of up to 25% can be achieved. Maintenance management of 6 machine units with scheduled work patterns from 1K to 36K requires a total of 1842 downtime hours per machine unit. At the same time, increasing maintenance productivity requires up to 251 downtime hours per machine unit. Comparing the two downtimes, it reaches 98.3%.
