The Study Program of Doctoral Engineering Science (PSDIT) held its 74th doctoral promotion on Tuesday, 23 July 2024, at the Wismakarma Hall, Faculty of Engineering, Udayana University, on Jl. P.B. Sudirman Denpasar. Promovenda Indriyani, S.Kom., M.Kom with the dissertation titled Classification System for Facial Skin Types and Race-Based on T-Area and U-Area Features in Facial Images Using the Convolutional Neural Networks (CNN) and Haar Cascades Methods received a very satisfactory predicate.

Dr. Indriyani, S.Kom., M.Kom describes that this study developed a system that can classify the racial type based on the facial skin type based on the T and U regions of the face image using CNN and the Haar Cascade method. The CNN method is used because it is used for image recognition and processing. The system was successfully implemented with an average accuracy of 98.87% for the racial classification of the seven image objects tested, and the average accuracy of skin type classification was 99.60%. The CNN configuration allows the system to automatically extract important features from the image through the feature hierarchy of the convolutional pooling layer of the CNN, which learns features at different hierarchical levels, making the system highly accurate. The CNN can adapt to changes in the image, and the end-to-end learning of the CNN is optimized with the Adam optimizer, improving the classification accuracy. The Haar Cascade can then detect specific features using the Haar Cascade defined in that library, and this method is very effective in quickly identifying face regions such as T and U areas.
