The Study Program of Doctoral Engineering Science (PSDIT) held its 73rd doctoral promotion on Monday, 22 July 2024, at the Wismakarma Hall, Faculty of Engineering, Udayana University, on Jl. P.B. Sudirman Denpasar. Promovendus Ir. Juli Sulaksono, M.Kom., MM, with the dissertation titled One-Way Communication using Convolution Neural Networks (CNN) for the Deaf to the Blind received a very satisfactory predicate.

Dr. Ir. Juli Sulaksono, M.Kom., MM describes that in Indonesia, deaf people communicate using the Indonesian Sign Language System "SIBI", or Indonesian Sign Language. The fundamental problem with SIBI is when deaf people want to communicate with blind people. This problem occurs because blind people cannot recognize the deaf people's SIBI language. The solution to this problem is to establish one-way communication for deaf and blind people using CNN. The process of SIBI in text and braille stereo is as follows: a) SIBI video sentence input, b) CNN, c) text preprocessing, d). Literary stemming, e) Braille and language indexing output. Once this research step is completed, the next process is analysis. The analysis used here is a confusion matrix and descriptive analysis. According to the calculation results, the precision rate is 85%, the accuracy rate is 90%, and the recall rate is 82%. Even after distributing the questionnaire and testing the system to the hearing impaired, the system still needs a lot of improvement, especially in data and training materials. The biggest operational problem is that the system crashes frequently.
