41st PSDIT Doctoral Promotion

Doctoral Program in Engineering Sciences (PSDIT) Faculty of Engineering, Udayana University held the 41^st doctoral promotion session on Wednesday, 27 April 2022, at 10.00 WITA at the Wiswakarma Hall of Udayana University. Promovenda Frysa Wiriantari defended her dissertation entitled "Implications of Changes in Meaning and Function of Catuspatha Semarapura in Klungkung Bali". Frysa Wiriantari completed her studies in 2 years and 1 month (excluding 1 semester leave) with a GPA of 3.97 and received a cum laude predicate.

Dr. Frysa Wiriantari in her presentation stated that there has been a change in the form and function of Catuspatha Semarapura since the beginning of its existence until now. The various functions that appear in the Catuspatha Semarapura and the surrounding space are accompanied by the use of the catuspatha as a center for various sacred and profane activities. The space that was once considered "tenget" or haunted has now become a tourist destination for the surrounding community. The addition of an element in the form of Padma Kanda Pat Sari right in the middle of the center point of the catuspatha resulted in the distortion of religious activities. This happened especially when the Tawur Agung Kesanga activity which should have been held right in the middle of the catuspatha shifted to the west of the catuspatha. This phenomenon raises the question what is the meaning of Catuspatha Semarapura today? Does the meaning remain, shift or change?.

 The results showed that the meaning of Catuspatha Semarapura today is a symbolic meaning, a center of activity and a philosophical meaning. This study also shows that changes in the form and function of Catuspatha Semarapura and the surrounding space do not change the core meaning of catuspatha as a sacred space and center of religious activities for the Balinese Hindu community.

Acting as chairman of the session was the Dean of the Faculty of Engineering, Udayana University, Ir. I Ketut Sudarsana, S.T., Ph.D. As the promoter was Prof. Dr. Ir. Syamsul Alam Paturusi, M.S.P. and co-promoters I and II were Dr. Ir. N.K. Acwin Dwijendra, S.T., S.Ds., M.A and Dr. Ir. I.D.G. Agung Diasana Putra, S.T., M.T respectively. Acting as the external examiners were Prof. Dr. Ir. Purnama Salura, MBA., M.T., IAI., Prof. Dr. I Wayan Ardika, M.A. and Prof. Dr. Drs. A A. ??Bagus Wirawan, S.U, while the internal examiners were Prof. Dr. Ir Ngakan Made Anom Wiryasa, MT., IPM. and Ir. I Gusti Ngurah Anom Rajendra, M.Sc., Ph.D. There were three academic invitees, namely Dr. Ir. I Made Adhika, M.S.P., Ni Made Yudantini, ST., M.Si, Ph.D and Dr. I Ketut Mudra ST.,MT.
